FGN News,

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah has decided to visit Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail tomorrow for allegedly torturing an inmate.

According to details, IHC CJ Athar Minallah heard a case filed by the parents of an inmate regarding alleged torture on him. Human Rights Secretary appeared in the court.

During the hearing, the chief justice noted that the HRD ministry has extraordinary powers, adding that the ministry can seek reports not only from Islamabad but also from the provinces.

He directed the Human Rights Secretary to accompany him during his visit to Adiala Jail tomorrow.

A day earlier, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) submitted a report to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), revealing alleged corrupt practices and torture against inmates at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

The court said a doctor from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) had examined the prisoner and the medical report supported the allegations of torture made by the prisoner’s parents.

The court has warned the Jail Superintendent that strict action will be taken against any inmate who complains of misbehavior in the jail and investigation will be conducted.

In an earlier incident, Shahab Hussain, a 21-year-old prisoner arrested in an anti-terrorism case, was robbed and tortured by Adiala jail officials who demanded bribe from him.

Hussain’s mother Imtiaz Bibi filed a petition at the IHC alleging that the jail superintendent and other employees tortured her son and broke his finger.
